Toni’s New Hairpiece Helps Her Confidence Shine Through

April 8, 2026

Meet Toni

At Wigs For Kids, every child we serve has a story, and each one reminds us why our mission matters.

Toni is a bright, joyful 7‑year‑old who lives with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss. Like many children, she once had a full head of curls. When her hair began falling out in patches, her world started to change in ways no child should have to navigate alone.

By the end of Pre-K, Toni was bald. Her family focused on what mattered most: helping Toni see her own beauty, strength, and worth, inside and out. Still, the emotional impact of hair loss can be profound, especially for children who want nothing more than to feel like themselves and fit in with their friends.

That’s where Wigs For Kids comes in.

A Community of Care Creates Each Hairpiece

Because of the generosity of hair donors across the country, Toni received a hand‑tied hairpiece made just for her, and at no cost to her family. Each wig we provide is created specifically for each recipient child, carefully measured, styled, and designed to move with them through everyday childhood moments, from school days to playtime.

The process begins with one of our trusted Certified Service Providers, where a stylist carefully measures the child’s head and helps choose the length and color they feel most confident wearing. From there, the order goes to our expert wig makers, where 20-30 ponytails, taken from several donors, are blended together to create one complete wig.

A few months later, that hair returns as something extraordinary: confidence, possibility, and joy.

More Than Hair

For Toni, receiving her wig wasn’t just about how she looks, it was about how she feels. Like many of our recipients, she now walks into school, stores, and social spaces with new confidence. She also proudly educates her classmates about alopecia, sharing her story and helping others understand that differences are nothing to hide.

This is the heart of our mission: helping children recognize their own beauty and strength, even during medical challenges beyond their control.

Powered by Generosity

Every day, Wigs For Kids receives multiple packages of donated hair from caring individuals who choose to make a difference. These donations, combined with monetary support and the time and expertise of compassionate stylists and volunteers, allow us to provide high‑quality wigs completely free of charge to children under 18 experiencing medically related hair loss due to cancer treatments, alopecia, burns, and other conditions.

Each ponytail tells a story of kindness. Together, they transform lives.
