Since 1981, Wigs For Kids has been providing children facing medical hair loss with made-to-order hairpieces, at no cost to the families. This is possible through the generosity of hair and financial donors.
While hair donations supply the materials needed to create a wig, financial support covers the production costs associated with its creation.
Wigs For Kids commits to supporting each child for every year of their childhood hair loss journey, with a hairpiece, maintenance products, and support services.
The cost of this support is close to $2,600 per child each year. For some kids, hair loss is only temporary, but for the majority of the kids we serve, hair loss will persist throughout their lives.
Each year, more families apply for our services, which means our need for support from generous donors also increases. Financial support is critical to meeting that need. We strongly encourage our donors to include a small donation to support the costs of the services we provide to these families. Every dollar makes a difference.

If you’re interested in donating your hair to kids in need, your first step is to set a length goal. While we accept hair donations of 12 inches or longer, we encourage you to donate 14+ inches of hair; the more length you can donate, the more of an impact you will make. Please note: hair that has been dyed or highlighted cannot be used in our hairpieces. Only natural hair free of chemical processing can be used. Gray hair is accepted.
We rely on talented hair professionals to properly cut the hair ponytails and braids that are then donated to Wigs For Kids. The professional you contact must follow these steps for cutting and donating your hair or ponytail. If you must use a salon outside of our locations, please read our detailed instructions here. Please consider adding a small financial donation to help Wigs For Kids with the cost of hair processing, services, and hair replacements (which average $2600 yearly per child). Any amount helps us get closer to helping another child.
If you use our online Hair Donation form and include a printout of your barcode with the donation, you can expect a thank you within 60 days of Wigs For Kids receiving your ponytail.
If you fill out a paper form without a barcode, you can expect a thank you within 4-6 months of Wigs For Kids receiving your hair. We truly appreciate your donation and will do our best to send a thank you as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience and your donation!
