Stylist Melissa Harvey Reflects on Her Blessings

April 2, 2025

Melissa Harvey is the owner of Artistry of Techniques in White Plains, NY and an amazing partner with Wigs For Kids. For seven years, Melissa has served as a Certified Service Provider, working with several recipients and their families.

Melissa can empathize with our recipients as she has also dealt with hair loss. She has androgenetic alopecia, a gradual and patterned thinning of hair on the scalp. Because of this, Melissa became an advocate for herself and family members that were dealing with the same condition.

Reflecting on her work with recipients “Each child has been a blessing to me. To be given the opportunity to help and guide each of them, helping them to feel secure in the type of wig they would like, and then to see their beautiful smiles when they come for their wig is a blessing. It is wonderful and fills my heart.

Melissa also shared that through her partnership with Wigs For Kids she has developed professional connections and has tapped into the expertise of others in the industry. She has enjoyed learning new skills and being a part of the larger community of hair care professionals.

Melissa recently worked with Avryl a recipient of Wigs For Kids who was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. “Avryl is strong spirited, which was very motivating to see a young child dealing with that type of illness and yet keeping the faith and the fight to deal with it,” stated Melissa. You can read about Avryl’s incredible journey here.

Wigs For Kids appreciates the time and talent that stylists share to help children with medical related hair loss. They are building relationships with the families we serve, and working toward our shared goal of restoring each child’s hope and happiness.

The Importance of Stylists for Wigs For Kids

Each and every day, Wigs For Kids relies on the generosity of stylists across the country, whether they are performing donation cuts, or working directly with recipient families. They share their time, talent, and expertise to make life better for kids dealing with hair loss.

Each year, more and more families apply for our services, which are always provided at no cost to the families. This means our need for hair donations, financial donations, and stylists to help our kids also continues to increase.

Wigs For Kids offers free training materials to any stylist who would like to join our cause and help kids. Ask your favorite stylist to join us!
