One of the most active areas at Wigs for Kids (WFK) is our mailroom, where we receive five to fifteen bins of mail daily—not including daily deliveries from FedEx and UPS. Although most of our donations come from within the United States, we also receive donations from all over the world including Greece, Japan, Australia, and Italy!
We are super thankful for Wayne, our WFK team member that sorts donations, as well as our amazing volunteers that help immensely with the process during our peak time in the summer. Did you know that you can make a huge difference in our process, too?
Here’s how you can help when sending your hair:
- Avoid small white letter size envelopes. They get caught in the postal services sorting machines and get ruined (including the hair, barcode for your tracking, and monetary donations).
- Weigh your package before shipping. If packages are missing the correct postage, we have to pay to receive it which adds up to around $1,000 a month! Help us avoid this by getting your package weighed at the post office or by utilizing the USPS shipping calculation tool here: https://postcalc.usps.com/.
- Seal your ponytails. If you are sending multiple donations at once (i.e. salons, groups, etc.), place each dry ponytail or group of ponytails in a sealed Ziplock bag (one per donor) and include the donor form, barcode, or ID with the bag. Loose ponytails or ponytails taped into rolls increase processing time exponentially.
Thank you for all you do for our amazing recipients at WFK! You can find out more about donation logistics on or donation page.
Sincerely,
Wayne and the WFK Team
