Meet five-year-old recipient Lorelei, who also goes by Lolo! She is currently being treated for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of which the bone marrow makes too many lymphocytes. This cancer is found most commonly in children under the age of five.
Lolo’s mother, Erin, described her to our team as “the queen of accessories!” She loves jewelry, hats, and anything that adds sparkle or shine. And as you might guess, her personality is also a reflection of that.
Lolo loves dressing up, playing outside, hiking, and playing with her siblings. She’s also a jigsaw puzzle master and has an abundant amount of love for the music of the 80s and 90s!
Lolo’s mother Erin is incredibly grateful for Wigs For Kids. “We recently received our hairpiece and Lolo is over the moon,” shared Erin. “The hardest part of the journey for Lolo has been losing her hair. We’re thrilled with how the hairpiece looks so close to her natural hair that she misses so much!”
Having the option to wear hair when she wants and needs has brought a sense of normalcy to Lolo’s day to day. On the days that Lolo doesn’t want to look physically different than her friends, she can wear it with pride and confidence, her mother states.
Erin explains her daughter’s Leukemia journey as extremely difficult and extensive, but that Wigs For Kids fuels her and Lolo to keep going.
Hair loss is just one of the hardships of illness and can significantly affect a child’s self-esteem. Our mission is to help children dealing with such hardships become more confident while fighting their illnesses. We’re honored to have helped provide Lorelei with comfort and encouragement during this time. Wigs For Kids provides this support to children in need at no cost and has never turned a child away.
