Lucia is a 10-year-old cancer warrior, but the journey is never an easy one. Treatments can keep kids from participating in their usual activities, which can be frustrating! Missing out on activities with friends is hard, and stares from strangers harder still.
That’s where Wigs For Kids can help. By providing specially designed hairpieces to kids dealing with hair loss, we can help restore confidence and self-esteem. With the help of generous hair and financial donors and a community of volunteer barbers and stylists, we provide beautiful hair replacement systems to kids like Lucia at no cost to their families. The reason is simple: we believe all kids deserve the opportunity to look themselves and live their lives!
Receiving her wig was a moment of huge excitement for Lucia. Her stylist, Joscelyn Laurence of Outside the Lines Salon shares, “I met Miss Lucia several months ago, and I know her medical situation had an effect on her overall self. When I put the wig on her, even before I cut the fringe, you could see the difference. She was more talkative, happier, it’s like I watched her BLOOM right in my chair.“
Lucia’s mother agrees, sharing, “The stylist Joscelyn was just as excited as we were for Lucia to try on her wig. Lucia requested to personalize the wig with cute bangs. As soon as we got in the car she told me, ‘Wow Mom — I can finally feel like myself again’ and requested if we could go eat at her favorite restaurant. I could just see how much confidence she gained and how excited she was to feel like herself again. It was certainly a great feeling for a girl that has missed out on so much during her months long cancer battle.”
