Cat donated her hair out of love and admiration for her cousin Alaina, a former Wigs For Kids recipient and advisory council member. As a teenager, Alaina was diagnosed with Trichotillomania, a condition that causes a person to pull out their hair. Her mother once shared, “Wigs For Kids made a difference by helping Alaina look her best with a wig, even though the struggle continued underneath it and within her mind.”
Today, Alaina is a radiant and confident young woman who brings joy wherever she goes. Reflecting on her cousin’s journey, Cat explained, “Alaina has grown into a beautiful, self-assured woman. As I approached 60 and let my hair grow longer, I kept thinking about the commitment Alaina made as a young adult to serve on the Wigs For Kids Advisory Board. I also remembered the happiness she felt each time she received a new wig.“
Alaina’s story has inspired many. Years ago, she represented Wigs For Kids at a Savannah Bananas game, where Bret Helton, a pitcher for the rival Party Animals, donated 22 inches of his hair to the cause.
The circle of love and inspiration continues—passing from donors to recipients and back again.
