Alaina was first diagnosed with alopecia when she was in middle school; at that time she experienced mild hair loss. Now a Division I soccer player at Loyola University Alaina’s alopecia has worsened causing total hair loss.
Alaina shared “By March of 2023 I was devasted and had lost any hope of having a full head of hair again. After the emotional rollercoaster leading up to deciding to shave what was left on my head, I wanted to use my story and platform as a Division I athlete to create more awareness about alopecia.”
Her teammates came together and raised the money needed for Alaina to purchase a wig. She stated that she felt blessed to have their support, and how meaningful it was to not have the financial burden of purchasing a wig. Inspired and moved by their support and knowing how meaningful the wig is to her, Alaina chose to share her story via social media and to ask for donations for Wigs for Kids. Through her efforts she raised over $5,000.
Thank you to Alaina and her supporters – funds have been raised to support the children served by Wigs for Kids, and awareness has been raised about alopecia.
