Setting Expectations

How long does it take to gain approval?

As Wigs For Kids is a non-profit organization, each application must first receive approval for funding/sponsorship by the Wigs For Kids Board of Directors. This approval is neither instantaneous, nor guaranteed. The submission of proper documentation is key to this step.

How long does it take to receive a hair replacement system?

It is difficult to answer this question definitively as the circumstances for each application is unique. Here are some considerations:

  • Wigs For Kids reviews all documentation submitted by the Recipient Family for completeness and accuracy. If the information provided is incomplete, we will need to follow up with you.
  • We recommend that you designate one parent/guardian (or acting guardian) take the lead in navigating this process.
  • We may have questions for you, or we may need verbal clarification or validation from you. Your availability or lack of availability affects the overall progress of your journey.
  • In some cases, the United States Postal Service (USPS) fails to meet expected ‘deliver by’ dates. This affects everyone’s ability to respond to, exchange, or provide critical information and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Our expectations for order processing and fulfillment can vary. Conditions such as natural disasters and forest fires can also affect the timeline.

For these reasons, Wigs For Kids is unable to provide a final timeline for your child’s particular journey. We are also unable to expedite the process for creating hairpieces.

What about next year?

Next year, you can apply again for a new hairpiece if the need still exists. Wigs For Kids provides one hairpiece per child, per year, free of charge to the recipient family pending approval of the application. The program steps have to be followed and completed with each application (1x annually).

Note: Each application is treated as an independent application, and requires the resubmission of current documents and photographs.

Recipient Program FAQ

About Wigs For Kids

Wigs For Kids is a private charity organization, meaning the federal government does not fund us. We are a Section 501 (c)(3) non-profit serving children.

Our hair replacement systems are designed to conceal complete hair loss or minimal hair growth due to medical reasons, including therapy treatments (e.g., chemotherapy or radiation) and damage to the scalp caused by burns, scarring, alopecia, or trichotillomania.

If your child suffers from partial hair loss, an evaluation will help us determine if our full cap solution can meet their needs. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the Program Administration at recipients@wigsforkids.org.

Confidentiality, Privacy, and Security of Recipient Health Information

Wigs For Kids is committed to protecting the confidentiality, privacy, and security of your child’s health information. For this reason, we need the designated representative (parent/guardian) to complete and submit the online application, and to serve as the main point of contact for Wigs For Kids.

Navigating Our Program: Language Policy

Please consider that we have a very small staff with limited language translation services. At this time, we are able to provide translation services in Spanish. Please call or email us to schedule an appointment for these services at espanol@Wigsforkids.org or 440.333.4433 option 5.

If you need language translation services for any languages other than Spanish, we request that the family secure an advocate to navigate through the steps of the program. This representative can be an adult family member, teacher, or friend.

Please confirm with this advocate and have them call or email us for support at recipients@wigsforkids.org or 440.333.4433 option 5.
