Recently, Wigs For Kids had the honor of serving Riley, a 6-year-old with alopecia. We’d like to share her story, as told to us by her mother Julie.
“My daughter, Riley, was diagnosed with alopecia at 5 years old. At first it was such a mild case that we didn’t put too much thought into it. Her hair began to grow back a few months later. However, another few months later she went through a more severe phase of alopecia with extreme shedding.
“Riley is an absolute girly girl. She loves dressing up, she loves her accessories, clothes, shoes and she loved picking out hairstyles on Pinterest for me to recreate. As a parent experiencing this for the first time through my child, I was worried how this would impact Riley.
“I began my research on alopecia and began looking at wigs. That’s when I stumbled upon Wigs For Kids. The Wigs For Kids program has been so wonderful. It was such an easy process with such kind and helpful people along the way.
“Sherrill Graff at Creative Hair & Nails in Boulder City, NV is an absolute angel and a huge part of making this an easy experience for Riley. She is so kind and made sure to make Riley feel comfortable during the initial and final process of her wig measurement.
“The smile on Riley’s face the moment she put on her wig was absolutely priceless. Her face instantly lit up, with a smile from ear to ear. She had unlocked another level of confidence on this journey of alopecia.
“It had been 5 months since she has had long hair. Wigs For Kids did that for her. The quality of the wig was more than I could have imagined, and they provide you with all the tools to ensure the wig is maintained well and can last.
“From the initial application process, to a local hairstylist and through the closing of our application, each interaction I had with a representative of Wigs For Kids was great. I am so grateful that Riley has been able to be a recipient of this program.
