At just four years old, Sylvie made a decision that would help another child feel more comfortable, confident, and supported during their hair loss journey.
Like many little girls, Sylvie was known for her beautiful long, thick hair. She often received compliments on it, but after celebrating her fourth birthday, she decided she was ready for a change. Inspired by her mom’s shorter hairstyle, Sylvie told her family she wanted her hair cut short, “just like Mom’s.”
As they prepared for her very first haircut, Sylvie’s family shared an idea that made the occasion even more meaningful: she could donate her hair to help another child.
Even at such a young age, Sylvie understood the opportunity to make a difference. Without hesitation, she was all in.

When the day arrived, Sylvie sat proudly in the salon chair and donated an incredible 15 inches of hair.
Her stylist, Megan Nixon of Megan Nixon Barbershop & Salon, helped make the experience smooth and memorable, guiding Sylvie and her family through the donation process.

“It was a wonderful experience,” her family shared. “She loves her short hairdo and the fact that her hair is helping others.”
For many donors, growing and donating hair takes years of commitment. Sylvie’s story is a beautiful reminder that generosity knows no age limit.
When choosing where to donate, Sylvie’s family wanted to support an organization that provides hair replacements to children and families at no cost.
They were also motivated by personal connections to individuals living with alopecia and understood how meaningful hair can be for children experiencing hair loss.
By choosing Wigs For Kids, they knew Sylvie’s donation would become part of something larger: helping children regain confidence and feel more like themselves.
When asked what they hope the donation will mean to the child who receives it, Sylvie’s family shared a simple but powerful message:
“We hope it makes that child feel comfortable and confident.”
Those two words, comfortable and confident, are at the heart of the Wigs For Kids mission. Every hair donation helps us create tailor-made hairpieces that allow children experiencing hair loss to participate in everyday life with renewed self-esteem.
Sylvie’s family encourages anyone thinking about donating to take the leap:
“Go for it! Hair can be so meaningful, and it’s lovely for those who are fortunate enough to grow a lot of it to share with those who cannot.”
We are incredibly grateful to Sylvie, her family, and stylist Megan Nixon for turning a first haircut into an act of compassion and generosity.
Your donation is more than hair, it’s hope, confidence, and a reminder that even the smallest hearts can make the biggest difference.
Thank you, Sylvie, for sharing your hair and your heart. ❤️

While hair donations like these make confidence-boosting hairpieces possible, financial contributions are equally critical. Monetary donations help fund the meticulous creation of each hairpiece, cover materials and production costs, and ensure that children receive their hairpiece at no cost to their families. For many children facing medical hair loss, this support provides comfort, confidence, and a sense of normalcy when they need it most.
By choosing to give, whether through hair, financial support, or both, you help ensure that more children get to experience hope, joy, and confidence.
At Wigs For Kids, we are honored to witness stories like this — where caring individuals come forward to create new opportunities for some incredible kids.
Thanks to support from both hair and financial donors, we helped more than 1,000 kids in 2025 receive free wigs, and we’re on track to help even more children in 2026!
