Alopecia is a challenging journey, and for Ethan, it has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. Diagnosed in November 2022, Ethan lost all of his hair except for his eyebrows and eyelashes. After months of regrowth, Ethan’s hair returned over the summer but the progress was short-lived, as emotional stress from bullying caused him to lose it again. Over just 10 days, Ethan lost his eyebrows and eyelashes, leaving his family searching for ways to help him regain confidence and comfort.
Wigs For Kids was founded to help kids like Ethan. Through our recipient program, Ethan could regain the hair he lost, and at no cost to his family, thanks to the generosity of our hair and financial donors.
Each of our recipients is paired with a Certified Service Provider, a stylist who volunteers their time, talent, and expertise to help children experiencing medical hair loss. They meet with each recipient twice. In the first appointment, the stylist takes measurements and with the family selects the appropriate cap size, as well as the color and length of the wig, making each hairpiece specifically for each recipient child. After the hairpiece is created, the family returns to the stylist to learn how to best care for their new hair.
Enter Chad Keast, a stylist whose career spans decades and whose heart for his clients is unmatched. Chad has been a part of the hairdressing industry for many years, specializing in haircutting and styling within the Aveda network, and now serving as an Intelligent Nutrients Educator and Salon Ambassador. His dedication extends beyond the salon chair—he has educated colleagues, press, and retail specialists about environmentally conscious and certified organic hair care while maintaining deep connections with his clients.

Chad has been Ethan’s stylist for his Wigs For Kids journey, providing not only expert care but also a safe and nurturing space where Ethan feels supported. “I love that I work in an industry that is innovative and constantly reinventing itself,” Chad shares. “I am truly blessed to work with so many amazing people—clients, colleagues, and the entire hairdressing community.”
For Ethan and his family, this relationship goes beyond a hairstyle—it is a partnership rooted in compassion, expertise, and empowerment. Families like Ethan’s often face medical hair loss alone, and having a stylist like Chad, who understands both the technical and emotional aspects of hair donation and wig creation, makes a meaningful difference. Through this bond, Ethan has been able to regain a sense of normalcy, confidence, and hope—reminding us all of the power of connection, skill, and kindness.
Every strand of hair donated, every thoughtful cut, and every moment spent with a stylist like Chad helps children like Ethan feel like themselves again—completely free to the families. It’s a testament to how hair, care, and human connection can bring light to even the most difficult journeys.
