UPDATE: Nearly $9,000 was raised in this event, fully funding more than 4 hairpieces for our recipient children!

In 2024, Michael Ranvestel tragically lost his wife Rachael to brain cancer. He has decided to honor her legacy by donating his hair to Wigs For Kids and raising funds to support our mission.
Rachael has been described as a kind, helpful and incredibly strong person. She loved the outdoors and adventures – hiking along with watching the Cubs, Dodgers, Bears games and traveling. Michael, her partner and organizer of the event, shared, “While the world was burning around her, she would gladly give her water to help others put their fires out—right up to the end. Sitting in a hospital bed, with a smile on her face, she would make sure the people visiting her were doing well in their lives. I hope that one day, I am a fraction as amazing as she truly was.”
Rachael enjoyed CrossFit, and her trainers worked with her throughout her battle to modify sessions for her. Fittingly, this fundraiser is being held at CrossFit RPE in Northbrook, IL. On June 7, 10 AM there will be a workout. The participant fee is $25. If you are not located in the area but would like to contribute to the fundraiser, they are selling Rachael Strong t-shirts and accepting donations. Michael’s goal is to raise $7,200 – he wants to help four children to receive a wig, helping them to feel better with whatever condition they are battling.
We encourage you to read Michael’s story and contribute to this beautiful tribute to Rachael’s life.
