Today, we’d like to celebrate a remarkable young donor who, despite facing hurtful comments from both peers and adults, courageously followed through on his promise to donate his hair.
Isaiah began growing his hair out at age 6 because he wanted a mullet like his big brother. Before long, he decided to continue growing it so he could make a meaningful donation in honor and memory of his grandparents.
Many of our young donors, especially boys who choose to grow their hair long for donation, experience judgment, teasing, and bullying simply because they look different while doing something incredibly kind.
Isaiah’s mother shared, “Last year, he almost gave up on his journey after experiencing repeated bullying for his long hair. We used it as a learning lesson and he decided that the purpose was much too important to give up due to the opinions of others.”
Unfortunately, the experience of being singled out for looking different is also familiar to many of our recipient children. We often hear from kids who want a hairpiece so they can blend in with their classmates and feel more comfortable in everyday situations. Having the option to wear hair allows them to focus on themselves rather than worrying about how others perceive them.
After nearly three years of growing his hair, Isaiah completed his donation journey to Wigs For Kids.
With the support of Zach Sitzman at Scott Watkins Barbershop, Isaiah’s haircut was handled with exceptional care and precision. Zach carefully sectioned and secured each ponytail, banding the hair before cutting to ensure the donation was preserved at its highest quality and could be used to its fullest potential in creating a made-to-order hairpiece for a child in need.
Young people like Isaiah deserve understanding, encouragement, and support as they navigate bullying and social pressures while making the selfless choice to help someone else.
Isaiah donated his hair in honor of two grandparents who are cancer survivors, and in memory of Grandma Joyce and Grandma Debra, who both lost their battles to cancer.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Isaiah for his incredible gift and to his family for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
When choosing where to donate, Isaiah researched several organizations before deciding to support Wigs For Kids.
By choosing Wigs For Kids, Isaiah knew his donation would become part of something larger: helping children regain confidence, feel more like themselves, and receive support completely free of charge to their families.
Every hair donation helps us create hand-tied hairpieces that empower children experiencing hair loss to participate in everyday life with renewed confidence and self-esteem.
While hair donations like these make confidence-boosting hairpieces possible, financial contributions are equally critical. Monetary donations help fund the meticulous creation of each hairpiece, cover materials and production costs, and ensure that children receive their hairpiece at no cost to their families. For many children facing medical hair loss, this support provides comfort, confidence, and a sense of normalcy when they need it most.
By choosing to give, whether through hair, financial support, or both, you help ensure that more children get to experience hope, joy, and confidence.
At Wigs For Kids, we are honored to witness stories like this — where caring individuals come forward to create new opportunities for some incredible kids.
Thanks to support from both hair and financial donors, we helped more than 1,000 kids in 2025 receive free wigs, and we’re on track to help even more children in 2026!
