Helping Children Look Themselves and Live Their Lives!

Impact Report 2024

When children lose their hair, they don’t just struggle physically. The change in their appearance can drastically undermine their self-image and sabotage their self-esteem. To help heal the pain of these struggles, Certified Cosmetic Therapist Jeffrey Paul founded Wigs For Kids, a nonprofit organization that has been serving children experiencing hair loss since 1981.

Wigs For Kids brings together stylists and hair donors who want to help children dealing with medical issues and treatments like alopecia, trichotillomania, burns, chemotherapy or any other medical causes of hair loss. When the right connections are made, regular people can make real changes in these children’s lives every single day. All it takes is the right hairstylist with the right pair of scissors and someone willing to donate a ponytail!

Positively Impacting Children’s Lives

For over 43 years, Wigs For Kids, Inc. has been positively impacting children’s lives by providing hair replacement systems, products, and encouragement at no cost to the families.

The children we serve have medical-related hair loss due to illnesses such as alopecia, cancer, trichotillomania, burns, lupus, and other medical conditions.

Hair Donors Generously Give Of Themselves

Each hair replacement system requires 25 – 30 qualified ponytail donations, and the costs of the process and production of the hairpieces are over $2,000 at this time. Our recipients receive the gift of products with each hairpiece that is provided. For some of our recipients that means a hairpiece from age 5 to age 18.

The chart below demonstrates the various lengths of ponytails donated in 2024.

Minimum hair donation requirements demonstrate the commitment and generosity of donors. The required minimum length is 12″ (14″ is preferred), hair cannot be colored or chemically treated.

Wigs For Kids has a network of hair stylists throughout the U.S. and Canada who cut donors’ hair.

Stylists At The Heart of Our Work

Wigs For Kids relies on the time, talent, and expertise of hair stylists throughout the U.S. and Canada to work with our recipients and cut donors hair. The map to the right shows the number of new hair stylists that have enrolled in the Certified Service Provider program in 2024. Currently, there are 550 Certified Service Providers serving children.

We are proud of our relationships with so many professional stylist volunteers that are helping our children with measurements, selection of hair color, and styling.
