We’re excited to share the upcoming publication of Spirits in His Hair / Espíritus en su pelo, a vibrant bilingual children’s picture book by Marta Miranda-Straub, illustrated by Courtney Kimes, and published by Shadelandhouse Modern Press. The book will be released on October 6, 2026, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Written in English and Spanish for children ages 4 to 8, the story follows Mikey on an adventure through Little Havana with his papi. When a visit to the barbershop brings unexpected fear, Mikey finds courage through family, community, and the cultural traditions surrounding him. The story celebrates the connections between hair, heritage, family, and a sense of belonging.
What makes this publication especially meaningful to the Wigs For Kids community is the generosity behind it. Profits received by the author from sales of Spirits in His Hair / Espíritus en su pelo will support Wigs For Kids and our work helping children experiencing medical hair loss.
