WATCH: Twilight’s Superstar Transformation

March 17, 2025

Twilight has alopecia, and shared that her experience with hair loss has not been easy for her. “It makes me sad, seeing everyone with hair, nobody like me. People stare and whisper because they don’t understand.”

Twilight looks up to her mother Stephanie, sharing, “She is kind and strong. She always tells me I am beautiful. I want to be like her.”

When Twilight first started to lose her hair, her family didn’t know where to turn. While searching online for wigs to meet Twilight’s needs, they found Wigs For Kids.

Twilight and her family applied to the Wigs For Kids Recipient Program, where children experiencing medical hair loss are provided hand-tied hairpieces made from donated hair at no cost to the family. Wigs For Kids is able to provide these hairpieces free of charge to recipient families thanks to generous hair and financial donors. As long as the medical need remains, Twilight’s family can apply for one hairpiece each year up through her 18th birthday.

Twilight worked with Barbara Paulo of Shear Xtreme in Massachusetts. Barbara works with ponytail donors as a Hair Donation Specialist, and also with our recipient families as a Certified Service Provider.

The first appointment between Barbara and Twilight centered around taking measurements for the hairpiece, to ensure a comfortable fit that would stay in place for an active kid. After selections were made for cap size, length, and color, Twilight’s hairpiece went into creation.

Once Twilight’s hairpiece was ready, Wigs For Kids let the family know a special package was on its way. They brought the box to Barbara’s salon, and went through the contents together, which you can see below!

At the appointment, Twilight learned how to use her brush and all the maintenance products. She was thrilled to show off her new look!

After the appointment, when we asked Twilight’s mom for an update, she told us Twilight is having lots of fun with her new hair! She enjoys creating new hairstyles and is excited to get ready for school in the mornings.

Twilight herself said, “I feel like a superstar!”
