THON Weekend 2026 filled the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania with the unmistakable energy, compassion, and resilience have defined this cherished annual tradition since 1973. From Friday, February 20 through Sunday, February 22, thousands came together for the 46‑hour, no‑sitting, no‑sleeping dance marathon that stands as the world’s largest student‑run philanthropy. But beyond the music, the performances, and the fundraising totals, THON 2026 shined a powerful light on the generosity of the Penn State community.
One of the most heartfelt demonstrations of that generosity came from 45 individuals who donated their hair, each offering a meaningful piece of themselves to benefit Wigs For Kids. This generous giving allows us to create made-to-order, hand‑tied hairpieces to children experiencing medical hair loss at no cost to families.

Supporting these donors were 7 skilled stylists who volunteered their time and talent throughout the weekend, including Susan Alters of Changing Times Hair Designs. Susan generously shares her time with Wigs For Kids serving as a Certified Service Provider (CSP). CSP stylists work directly with our recipient families, assisting in the measurement process for each wig and with its styling and maintenance when completed. On the day of the event, Susan joined with her fellow stylists to carefully complete each donation cut, ensuring dignity, celebration, and gratitude for every person who stepped up to give.

By the end of the weekend, the community had collectively contributed 528 inches of hair to be transformed into durable, high‑quality wigs that help restore confidence and a sense of normalcy for our recipient kids. These gifts will become the hairpieces that children can swim, play, run, and be themselves in—free of charge.
While the dance marathon remained central to the event, THON 2026 was shaped by countless acts of giving, both large and small. The year‑long fundraising effort, which began July 1, culminated in a record‑breaking $18,841,726.53 raised For The Kids®. Students spent the year spreading awareness, planning events, and rallying support—not for recognition, but for the families relying on Four Diamonds for care and financial assistance.
THON Weekend featured a performance by Fitz and the Tantrums on Friday night, hair donations on the stage on Saturday, and the moving Final Four sequence on Sunday. Family Hour reminded every person in the arena why the mission matters so deeply, honoring Four Diamonds families and sharing stories of courage and strength.

When the dancers finally took their seats after 46 hours on their feet, the energy shifted from endurance to gratitude. Moments later, the Total Reveal showed the fundraising triumph made possible through an entire community’s dedication and heart.
Wigs For Kids is grateful for the support of THON in the collection of ponytails. Both during the main event and at their lead-up 100 Days ‘Til THON event, donors step up to raise awareness for childhood cancer and share their hair with Wigs For Kids. Extra special thanks to THON Hair Donation Captains Sidney and Payton for their efforts recruiting the stylists and donors for each event!

Thanks to support from both hair and financial donors, we helped more than 1,000 kids in 2025 receive free wigs, and we’re on track to help even more children in 2026!
