Helping Her Community: Stylist Emily Pake Steps Up For Kids in Need

Stylist Spotlight: Emily Pake

In Burlington, North Carolina, stylist Emily Pake brings her talents to Altered Image Salon, where she specializes in bold, vibrant color, dimensional looks, and razor cuts. With nine years of experience behind the chair, Emily loves transforming her clients and helping them feel confident in their personal style.

Emily began volunteering with Wigs For Kids just a few months ago, inspired by a need close to home. Addi, a vibrant 9-year-old with a passion for helping others, had developed Alopecia Areata and lost her hair. Addi was accepted into the Wigs For Kids Recipient Program, which provides free-of-charge hairpieces for kids with medical hair loss, but there was no Certified Service Provider (CSP) in her area who could take her measurements and guide her through the process.

Wigs For Kids CSPs are given free training to support recipient families, from taking the precise measurements needed for each made-to-order hairpiece, to offering styling and maintenance tips once the hairpiece is completed. As a friend of Addi’s mother, Emily stepped up to meet that need, not only for Addi, but for other children in her community who may face similar challenges.

Emily was no stranger to supporting people with hair loss. While working in the Concord area of North Carolina, she served many clients who had developed thyroid issues linked to their work in coal mining — conditions that often resulted in thinning hair or hair loss. Determined to help, Emily researched techniques to create the appearance of fuller hair and earned certifications in five methods of hair extensions, ensuring each client could achieve the look they wanted.

Now, her work with Wigs For Kids has opened the door to learning even more about hair loss. After helping Addi, Emily is already preparing to assist the next child in her area, offering renewed confidence and self-esteem through compassionate support and skilled service. We are honored to have her as part of our mission to help incredible kids feel like themselves again.

Emily shares, “Wigs For Kids has opened a new door for me and, I’m learning more about hair loss. This also lets me be a voice for others, and hopefully, I can bring more stylists to join the mission!”
