Stories behind the donations we receive always grab our hearts. Recently, our friend Katelynn donated, and we couldn’t wait for her to share her story with you. To our donors, friends, and Wigs For Kids family, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Katelynn Terry.
My mother-in-law, Kyle Maystead, lost the battle to cancer on August 23, 2018. It’s crazy to think that more than a year has already passed. She had a big impact on my life, and it’s difficult to write about her without tearing up. She was a confident and caring woman, and when she spoke, people listened. She only wanted the very best for everyone around her, including the families she served as a Child/Adolescent and Family Therapist. She had such a huge presence in her family, with her friends, and in the work field. Kyle had the kindest heart and cared for everyone, especially children. Everything she did in life was for other people. That is why I chose Wigs For Kids.
Initially, it was very difficult to find an organization that offered FREE wigs. I applaud WFK for making every child feel normal no matter what their parents’ bank account looks like. The children and their families are going through enough, and I’m sure there are a lot of medical expenses that need to be paid.
Additionally, Kyle adored children and wanted them (and everyone around her) to feel at ease, comfortable, and as happy as possible. On her birthday in December 2019, I decided to donate 14” of my hair to WFK to celebrate her life and give happiness to a child just like she would want. Thank you for allowing me to celebrate her in the best way possible!
Towards the end of her battle, Kyle had a wig of her own and was able to walk around confidently with her head held high. I am so excited to give a child the chance to do the same, as is my husband, Mike, who is growing his hair out to donate! Again, I cannot say thank you enough for all that this organization does – WFK has affected our lives in a big way. I hope sharing our story will help more people donate to this amazing organization!
