Amanda’s Story

January 4, 2018

Today we wanted to share an amazing transformation that happened last week thanks to your generosity.

Amanda started losing her hair in preschool as a result of alopecia. Alopecia is an immune system disorder which causes the body to start attacking the hair follicles, causing baldness in people of all ages. It is most common in people younger than 20. While some children will lose clumps of hair, others will become bald because of the disorder.

Bernadette has donated her hair four times to Wigs For Kids. “This is my fourth time donating my hair,” she shared. “I really wanted to tell the story of who got my hair donation.” Bernadette travelled all the way from New Jersey to capture Amanda’s wig fitting for a story she’s writing for nj.com. Here’s a sneak peek at this amazing story:

We’re looking forward to hearing more about Bernadette and Amanda’s story when the piece is published next month!
