How One Mother Helped Her Daughter Overcome Alopecia

Welcome to our Best of 2017: Wigs For Kids series! Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be looking back at some of your favorite posts and sharing some of the transformations we’re watched this year!

When a child is diagnosed with hair loss, it impacts the whole family. Lauren’s transformation truly helped her whole family heal. Wigs for Kids can’t make these miracles happen on our own–we need your help! Consider becoming a supporter of our mission today!

Alopecia doesn’t just affect those suffering from it. In fact, it can be just as devastating for that individual’s loved ones. For one mother Nancy, she knew something was wrong when her daughter, Lauren was just 8 months old. Lauren had a small bald spot on her head that the pediatrician said would go away over time. However, Nancy wasn’t so sure.

It wasn’t until Lauren turned five years old that she started losing her hair in clumps. That’s when Nancy’s suspicions were confirmed that her daughter had Alopecia. While a heartbreaking diagnosis, Lauren’s pediatrician encouraged Nancy to be strong and listen to her daughter’s needs while adjusting to this new reality.

Learn more about Nancy’s experience watching her daughter grow up and live her life with Alopecia.
