Give Hair to Change Lives
Wigs for Kids is a private, non-profit organization relying solely on donations to make durable, custom Hair Replacement Systems that look just as a child's natural hair would.
Through caring companies, foundations, groups and individuals like you, we can continue to provide COMPLIMENTARY Hair Replacement Systems to children who would otherwise not be able to afford them. It costs approximately $1,800 to complete one Hair Replacement. To help offset the costs of production and processing for our Replacements, a money donation is appreciated with your ponytail, or you may want to consider collecting pledges from family and friends for your hair donation.
Please download the hair donation form below. You can type on the form and print it out to mail in with your hair donation. Page 2 contains the instructions to give to your stylist.
Generally the Wigs for Kids office receives two to three mail crates of hair donations from all over the country each day; our staff and volunteers are working diligently to process all the incoming mail. You should receive confirmation of your donation via e-mail (if requested) or a postcard in approximately six to eight weeks.
Hair Donation Requirements
Hair donations must be a minimum of 12 inches in length to ensure that we can provide prosthetics for children who wish for long hair. It takes twenty to thirty ponytails or braids to create one Hair Replacement.
We cannot accept hair that has been chemically processed -- perms, color treated or highlights. Natural color or highlights that wash out are acceptable. Hair that has been chemically processed will not withstand the chemical processing to sanitize the hair. Gray hair is acceptable.
Hair that is donated must be clean and dry before mailing.
Your hair can be cut at a local salon or for a listing of salons click here. Contact the salon to check whether they offer discounted or free services.

If you would like an additional note of recognition sent to another address recognizing your donation, please specify that you would like to do so and include that information.

Q: What happens to my hair after I send it in?
A: Every day, we receive 3-4 tubs of hair donation mail. Our in-house process involves certain steps for quality control (making sure each ponytail is dry and secured properly), as well as measuring, sorting, and wrapping. The hair is then sent to one or more manufacturers.
Q: Who are your manufacturers? Are they located in the United States or overseas?
A: We have been using the same three manufacturers for over thirty years in order to ensure that these special hairpieces that we design are of the greatest quality possible. They are out of the country, because there are no companies who provide the services that we require in the United States.
