Eligibility Requirements

To receive a cranial prosthesis, or hairpiece, from Wigs for Kids, a child must be . . .

• 18 years old or younger
• experiencing hair loss as a result of burns, chemotherapy, radiation treatments, alopecia, or other medical circumstances
• unable to pay for a hairpiece after seeking assistance from all other resources
• referred by a medical professional

Financial Responsibility

Families should consider all avenues of financial support. We ask that you please provide them with the necessary application forms and insurance information.

The value of each hand-designed hairpiece is approximately $1,500. But the benefits to the well being of the child are priceless. Because Wigs for Kids is a non-profit organization that exists only from donations, partial payments and donations are always appreciated and ensure that another child will be able to receive a hairpiece.

Consultation

After a child's application has been accepted, he or she will need to make two visits to the Wigs for Kids center in Rocky River, Ohio. The first visit is for a preliminary consultation and measurement of the child's head; the second visit is for the final cutting and fitting of the hairpiece. Once a hairpiece is ordered, delivery time may take from 4 to 10 weeks.

If a child is unable to travel, he or she will need to locate a Wigs for Kids Affiliate or a local hair replacement center or hair salon that is willing to work with Wigs for Kids. In exchange for their time and services, Wigs for Kids will provide the center or salon with the necessary tools, guidelines, and techniques to properly fit, style, and maintain the hairpiece.
