Helping Children Look Themselves and Live Their Lives!

About us

When children lose their hair, they don’t just suffer physically. The change in their appearance can drastically undermine their self-image and sabotage their self-esteem. To help heal the pain of these struggles, Certified Cosmetic Therapist Jeffrey Paul founded Wigs For Kids, a nonprofit organization that has been serving children suffering from hair loss since 1981.

Wigs For Kids brings together stylists and hair donors who want to help children suffering from medical issues and treatments like alopecia, trichotillomania, burns, chemotherapy or any other medical causes of hair loss. When the right connections are made, regular people can make real changes in these children’s lives every single day. All it takes is the right hairstylist with the right pair of scissors and someone willing to donate a ponytail!

The journey from a hairdresser looking to help some local clients to a nonprofit organization helping people every day has been a life changing experience for Jeffrey Paul. Each wig is made with about 150,000 strands of natural hair tied into the foundation of the wig, so each wig fits the recipient’s head perfectly for more comfort and a more natural look. Boosting these kids’ confidence is just a portion of helping them see the joys in life through their greatest struggles, but it’s a very important part of it.

A Cooperative Effort

Wigs For Kids is a cooperative effort among Certified Cosmetic Therapists throughout North America who share a common goal. “Children shouldn’t have to worry about how they look, especially when they’re in the middle of a health crisis,” says Jeffrey Paul. “We want to give these kids the opportunity to feel good about themselves again.”

The Value

The value of a hair replacement system is $1,800. “These are custom-made hair replacements,” says Jeffrey Paul. “Each prosthesis is hand-tied and is made completely from human hair. We make sure they look just like a child’s own hair.”

The Benefit

“They won’t come off on the baseball field or in the playground,” he adds. “Kids can count on them. And because kids look just the way they did before, they feel better about themselves. They look in the mirror and their eyes light up. To see that light in their eyes … that’s priceless.”

Wigs For Kids Donation Information

Wigs For Kids depends on monetary and hair donations from generous individuals.

The process for creating wigs made from real hair is costly and time-consuming. Wigs For Kids never charges the families that are receiving these custom hair replacement systems.
